A brick is a building material used to make walls; it is usually composed of clay, sand, lime and sometimes concrete materials. Brick is one of the most prevalent materials in the construction of homes. The decision to use brick in the construction of your home depends significantly on the conditions of your area and what you want in your home.

The most prevailing advantage of bricks is durability. This is because they are made from clay and shale and fired through a kiln, in a vitrification process, at up to 2000 degrees; this enables the clay particles to fuse together solidly. Bricks are subject to much more stringent manufacturing process than was obtained in the past and this result in a consistently stronger end product. Contrary to cement walls that have to be painted and repainted often, clay bricks have several colours and shade options that will not fade.

Secondly, brick offers superior protection over other wall cladding materials. If you live in a cold clime, brick houses can keep warmth in and cold out because heat travels more slowly through bricks and this gives protection during frigid temperatures. Also, brick is a non-combustible material, as such, it is an excellent choice to resist or confine fires.

Lastly, bricks offer lasting value and require far less maintenance, it has minimal mold growth and insect infestation compared to other wall types. Unlike other wall materials, bricks do not need to be repainted and its one of the few materials that actually look better with age.
