MAXIMIZING YOUR LIVING SPACE

Big or small, a time comes when our houses seem inadequate and not just large enough to accommodate us and our varying needs. This might be as a result of a new addition to the family, acquisition of new furniture or a number of other things. Whatever the case may be, learning ways to maximize your living space is a skill that comes handy.

One of the most important ways to put your living space into maximum use is to avoid clutter. There is always the temptation to be a hoarder, holding on to paraphernalia that have some sentimental value but no actual use anymore and we just can’t bring ourselves to dispose of. These items take up space in the home that can be used for actual productive things. Break that habit and no, don’t leave them till later to do away with. Keep only the things you need and let your house breathe.

The use of shelves to store books, minor lightweight appliances, utensils and other items is another useful method to employ. Installing floor to ceiling shelves would give enough room in the house. These shelves can be put in virtually every room of the house depending on how much things you have to store. Also, in designing rooms for kids, you can opt for double deck beds instead of single ones. This leaves space for you to put in other things, for example, dressing tables and clothes drawers.

One wide open room can also be divided into two with the use of glass walls and curtains. This allows you to use one large room for multiple functions. For example, one side of the divide can be used as a bedroom and the other side converted into a study.

Lastly, large wall mirrors makes a space look bigger and roomier than it actually is so you can make use of them while designing your home, painting the walls in bright colours also help. Doing all these won’t make the house bigger but it would definitely give you more space to put to proper use and enjoy your home.
