UNDERWATER LIVING: THE POSSIBLE FUTURE OF REAL ESTATE?

In some developed countries, like Dubai and America,it is not so uncommon anymore to see a hotel built underwater, at a time, this feat was deemed impossible but with the advancement of technology, engineers and architects willing to think outside the box and unafraid of taking on new challenges, this has been made possible. Ever thought of having a whole city built under water? Yes? Well, this could be a reality in the not-so-distant future.
For as long as we know, real estate has been on land and the likelihood of it being any other way seemed unlikely. However, with the great reduction in land mass following the explosion of population numbers, other means of providing shelter and meeting the ever growing housing deficit common to most major cities may need to be looked into in the future. Underwater living ,if explored, will go a long way in eradicating the problems of congestion, deforestation and other problems caused by overpopulation on land.
With an amazing view of the ocean and the serenity of the environment, living or working in an office under water does have some appeal to it and is not so farfetched.
However, this is not to say living under water will not come with its own challenges. Unlike building on land which has been mastered and improved upon for centuries, building in the middle of the ocean is no walk in the park. Many investors will be unwilling to invest in what many will consider a tall order. Aside from the capital intensive nature of such a project, it can be reasonably argued that it is for the affluent and mass housing is not achievable.
For now, it is uncertain the role underwater living will play in the future of real estate. Current statistics postulate that you can only live under water for a few weeks at a time, that is why hotels and resorts seem like a reasonable investment. However, keep in mind that once upon a time, it was concluded that it is impossible to fly but the Wright brothers proved this theory wrong when they built and flew the first fully practical airplane. So suffice it to say that what is considered impossible today can be made possible tomorrow and even improved upon, underwater living included.
